Wonder Girls: The 2 Different Years Album Launch Party!

You've heard their songs on radio given enough airplay, that would result in a last song syndrome. Every kid out there was dancing to the beat and you can't stop the heat. They broken the Philippine music scene for other Koreans to get their chance in bringing the sound unlikely spoken in english.

The year 2009 marked the beginning of the so-called “KPOP Phenomenon” as the song NOBODY by the Wonder Girls became a monstrous hit with venom spreading like wildfire over the radio airwaves, TV and internet. Its lyrics, melody or even choreography inevitably created a huge impact among the “pinoy” music aficionados...

The Wonder Girls is a South Korean girl group under JYP Entertainment - one of the top Korean Entertainment Agencies recognized for building top Korean global stars. The all-female group rose to popularity in the fall of 2007 with the song "Tell Me”, which became a highly hypnotic dance track at that time causing an immense reaction from their Korean fans. The Wonder Girls have scored three consecutive #1 hit singles namely; "Tell Me", "So Hot", and "Nobody. They have also garnered awards and recognition for their superb on stage performances. With their addictive dance moves and their numerous hits tucked into their belt, the Wonder Girls managed to earn the title as “Korea’s National Sisters”. In 2009, the group began their entry into the American market via their signature song "Nobody". The single was in fact, the very first Korean song ever to hit the Billboard Hot 100 – a very rare achievement which you can only attribute to the Wonder Girls!

The Wonder Girls debuted with 5 members namely Sunye, Yeeun, Sunmi, Sohee, and Hyunah. In the middle of 2007, Hyunah left the group by her parents due to their concern over her health and later again made her comeback in the Cube Entertainment’s girl group – 4Minute; Yubin, a JYP trainee took her place. In early 2010, it was announced that Sunmi would be postponing her musical career to pursue an academic career; Hyelim another JYP trainee took her place. Even with unexpected changes in line-up, the Wonder Girls have successfully completed their 1st U.S Tour as well as promotional activities in South Korea, the United States and South East Asia.

In the Philippines, a group of Filipino fans have been gathering to promote and spread the love and passion for the Wonder Girls since 2009 forming Wonderful Philippines. Wonderful Philippines (wonderfulph.org) is a recognized fan club for all Filipino Wonderfuls (*coined term for Wonder Girls fans) by JYP Entertainment U.S.A and MCA Music Philippines. Wonderful Philippines strives to become every Filipino’s source for anything about the Wonder Girls - events, activities, contests and mini-gatherings makes the groups’ activities very anticipated by any Wonder Girls fan.

Unlike other KPOP groups, The Wonder Girls continue to charm not only their K-POP fans but the world as a whole as they conquer the international music scene. They are definitely poised for international stardom with their much anticipated new album, “2 Different Tears”. Filipino fans have been expecting a fresher, brighter image for the girls and are very excited about the fact that the album will soon hit our local shores. The long wait is over as MCA Music proudly unleashes “2 Different Tears” album featuring the single of the same title. What better way to celebrate the official album release than by throwing a truly momentous party!

MCA Music, in partnership with Wonderful Philippines and the official Music Channel Partner MYX – Your Choice Your Music, is celebrating NOBODY BUT YOU! Kim Chiu Joins Cherry Mobile

Kim Chiu joins John Lloyd Cruz as the new face of Cherry Mobile

Perfect for the trendy female market like one of the most sought after young actresses of her generation and now the new face of Cherry Mobile, Kim Chiu, the X90
Blush is Cherry Mobile’s new dual-SIM handset that merges functional technology and chic design with a good dose of feminine flair, ideal for young girls with busy lifestyle.

With its chic design and suite of multimedia features, Kim says, with Cherry Mobile X90 Blush, she finally found the right phone that matches her taste in fashion. “For me, the X90 Blush is not only a mobile phone, it’s a fashion statement.”

It’s easy to understand why. The compact handset features a glossy façade with a touch-screen monitor that is certified to turn heads and become a staple in the trendy femme fatale’s purse.

“X90 Blush blends into my kikay kit easily with its chic swiveling slider design. Blush is a mobile phone and accessory in itself. Girls like me will have a hard time going out of the house without it, because of its girly and stylish look, which makes it distinct from the other mobile phones” Kim added.

The X90 Blush also sports a variety of features that on-the-go ladies should find very useful. Its 2.0 Megapixel camera is the most fashionable way to capture “glam shots” of you and your friends, plus it’s a snap storing file as it is expandable up to 2GB micros SD and uploading shots to your Facebook. This phone also doubles as an MP3/MP4 player and an FM radio so Kim can listen to her favorite songs and be updated with the latest radio hits while waiting for the shoot or travelling to her next location.

Kim in particular said she liked how the X90 Blush helped keep her fit with its proprietary Body Mass Index Calculator software. The application for health and figure conscious ladies calculates overall body mass by analyzing height and weight. “The app helps me keep track of my overall wellness, and tells me if I am underweight, normal or overweight,” said Kim.

The easy-to-use Menstrual Center software, on the other hand, charts users' entire menstrual cycle, including possible fertile periods. All Kim needs to do is to type her last day of menstrual bleeding and the average number of her menstrual cycle days.

Besides the obvious kikay glam factor, Cherry Mobile X90 Blush ensures versatility to the different lifestyles of girls as it comes in three chic colors: baby pink, classy white and sassy purple.

The Cherry Mobile X90 Blush was launched in the market as early as 2009. “We’re just waiting for the perfect young and chic lady who will match the personality of X90 Blush, and it’s no other than Kim Chiu,” according to Agnes Conopio, Marketing Head of Cherry Mobile.

Cherry Mobile X90 Blush is available at Php 6,490 in all Cherry Mobile Concept Stores, Kiosks and Dealers nationwide.

Café 5845 Now Open For Business.

Breaking a previous world record is already something any country will take great pride for.

But for a country to set a first in the world is something else.

5845 is the number that shook the culinary world last December 14, 2009. It was when the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) and Kraft Eden Cheese successfully created 5,845 unique cheese-infused dishes in one day.

With this record-breaking milestone, Filipino ingenuity was celebrated at its prime.

But the desire of the two renowned institutions to commemorate Filipino culinary creativity does not stop there,

That is why Café 5845 opened for business.

“It is the world’s first cheese café that will serve the most number of cheese dishes at 5, 845,” Chef Giovasco C. Barlao, VP and Head for Operations--MIHCA proudly says. Mounting and marking yet another first in the culinary world is more than just bringing prestige to the country. “We wanted to share to our fellow Filipinos the joy of tasting 5,845 unique cheese-based dishes that we prepared for the World Record event,” Chef Barlao shares. “Which means we get to share our great passion and love for food with them,” s/he added.

Spearheaded by MIHCA and Kraft Eden Cheese, Café 5845 promises the public a record-setting dining experience. “Everyday, we will have a different menu featuring some of the dishes used in the record-breaking 5,845 dishes–guests would be too intrigued not to come back for more,” Chef Barlao explains.

With pasta such as Penne Amatriciana with Shrimp & Mushroom, BBQ Pork w/ Cheesy Bechamel Sauce as one of the main courses, Vegetarian pizzas to satisfy vegetarian guests and of course, sandwiches such as Chicken and Cheese Panina lined up in the menu, guests are sure to indulge in a unique dining experience.

Mounted in SM Mall of Asia North Living Seaside Boulevard area, Café 5845 provides greater accessibility to the public. “Everyone, people from all walks of life, may get a taste of the unique and scrumptious dishes served only at Café 5845,”

Moreover, the café’s architectural design is reminiscent of a quiet and classy European café–complete with an impeccable view of the Manila Bay by its side. “We also considered design and location because they are vital in giving the whole venue a full 360,”

Being the first of its kind in the world, Café 5845 stands as yet another testament of the world-class culinary talent and passion Filipinos greatly exhibit.

Dance, Dance, Dance versus the Fatal Female Disease

There are 12 Pinays that die everyday of cervical cancer. So start dancing.
Far from being absurd in the face of such a grave threat, dancing is actually a way to help save women from this fatal female disease. Fact is, a healthy and active lifestyle is part of the triad of cervical cancer prevention – apart from vaccination and regular screenings.

But more than that, spreading the message of cervical cancer does not have to be merely confined inside the walls of health centers, ob-gyne clinics, or lecture halls. Now, there’s a fun, endorphin-filled way to get more women to know more about the disease: a dance marathon to be held at a rising club in the newest entertainment destination Resorts World at Newport City.

The event was organized by Brainbox Inc, in cooperation with global pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline, Sorciage by Wacoal, Artistry by Amway, Heatlhway Medical, Magic 89.9 and Team Manila. The open-for-all all-female dance marathon entitled “The Pink Movement” features popular hiphop dance group G Force’s head instructor and choreographer Georcelle Dapat-Sy, and was hosted by actress and model Iya Villania, television host and model JC Cuadrado, and DJ Suzy of Magic 89.9. 21 schools and 16 dance studios from all over the metro will come together to fight the vicious cervical cancer.

An occurrence where the normal cells of the cervix turn cancerous, cervical cancer is usually caused by a chronic and persistent cancer-causing type of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection that leads to pre-malignant lesions that progress to cancer. Globally, cervical cancer is considered the second most common cancer worldwide, with an estimated 529,409 new cases and 274,883 deaths by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008. In the Philippines meanwhile, more than 27 million women – females aged 15 years and above – are at risk of cervical cancer. The good news is that cervical cancer can be prevented through healthy lifestyle, screening and vaccination.
So we gladly put on our dancing shoes and slide our way to the dance floor –we happily said yes!! it’s time to groove to the beat and declare victory over cervical cancer.

Theater Down South

The local theater scene has always been identified with venues in the big cities such as Makati, Pasay and Quezon City. For residents of the South Metro area, this has made theater going something of an ordeal. The thought of having to navigate the SLEX and contend with the traffic is enough to put many people off the idea of watching a live show. Fortunately, there is now a more accessible alternative.
Theater Down South is a theater company dedicated to providing quality productions for residents of Parañaque, Alabang, Las Piñas and points further down (such as Cavite, Laguna, etc.), with a special focus on educational and family entertainment. It also features performers who are based in the South Metro area. With most of their shows being mounted at the Insular Life Theater, Alabang, the company hopes to foster a theater going habit among the communities in the are, and promote theater as an alternative form of entertainment, bringing great live shows closer to home.

Previous productions have included “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Treasure Island” and “Rapunzel”. This season, the company adds two musicals to their repertoire. In August, they will be staging “The Princess and the Red Carp”, an original musical based on the Chinese version of the Cinderella story, and in September, Theater Down South will be doing Stephen Sondheim’s “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”. Veteran stage actor Michael Williams, who is also the company’s Artistic Director, directs both shows. There are also plans to restage “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” later in the season.

To further build their audience, Theater Down South is also heavily involved in activities that promote theater education. Mrs A's Oppus

How does an accomplished pianist, a well-known piano pedagogue, and an educator celebrate five decades of guidance, dedication, and passion for excellence in her musical craft?

In celebration of its 70th year, St. Paul University Manila College of Music and Performing Arts, in cooperation with Greenhills Music Studio, presents “Mrs. A’s Opus” - a tribute concert on August 1, 2010 at five o’clock p.m. at the Fleur de Lis Auditorium of St. Paul University
Manila.

“Mrs. A’s Opus” is the 50th anniversary of teaching of renowned music professor Carmencita Guanzon Arambulo, one of the leading musicians of the Philippines today. She is more popularly called ‘Mrs. A”, a nickname coined by her students.
For the first time in the local music concert stage, “Mrs. A’s Opus” will feature some of the country’s renowned names in the music industry who flourished under the guidance of Mrs. A.

The featured artists are Rowena Arrieta, Louie Ocampo, Ryan Cayabyab, Oliver Salonga, Maritess Salientes, Ariel Arambulo, Rica Arambulo, Fr. Manoling Francisco, Jonathan Arevalo Coo, Therese Gemora, Katherine Fernandez, Hansel Ang, GMS-PSA String Orchestra, GMS Piano Ensemble, GMS Alumni Pop Ensemble, GMS Suzuki Music Kids, and Mass Appeal Choir.

New York-based Rowena Arrieta will fly back here in Manila after an eighteen year hiatus from the Philippine concert stage. For the first time, Rowena will perform “Ondoy-Ondoy” by Ryan Cayabyab and “Hallelujah Concerto” by Ariel Arambulo. These two exciting new works were commissioned and specially written for “Mrs. A’s Opus”. In “Hallelujah Concerto, ”Arrieta will be joined by pianists Therese Gemora, Jonathan Coo and the PSA/GMS string orchestra.

Rowena Arrieta, the Philippines’ only laureate at the prestigious 1982 Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, made history by winning fifth prize and special prize for being the competition’s youngest contestant. Under the tutelage of Mrs. A., she first gained recognition by winning first prize in piano at the 1976 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and as a scholar at the Philippine High School for the Arts. She now resides in Long Island, New York with her husband and two children, and owns a private music studio with seventy students.

Ryan Cayabyab is master of his art as a multi-faceted musician. “Mr. C” as he is fondly called is a composer, arranger, producer, music director, conductor, performance artist, television show host, recording artist, music educator and arts administrator. His numerous local and international awards validate the excellence of his works. He graduated from U.P. College of Music (major in composition). His work “Ondoy-Ondoy” is Ryan’s gift to Mrs. A for being his mentor in music theory and as most influential in inspiring and shaping his career as a musician and composer.

Louie Ocampo shall perform a special medley of his most memorable original hits together with the Mass Appeal Choir. Louie is one of the Philippine’s foremost pop songwriter-musicians. He traces his musical roots to Greenhills Music Studio where he studied with Mrs. A since the age of 12. At 17, he first rose to prominence, winning at the 1977
International Electone Grand Prix in Japan, the 2nd Metro Manila Popular Song Festival, and the 6th Metropop Song Festival. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Louie has written countless radio hits – picking up several Awit and FAMAS awards, and continues to be very much in-demand composer for films and TV commercials.

She was a teaching fellow at the Berklee College of Music and graduated with a Composition degree, Magna cum Laude.

Two of Mrs. A’s talented offspring are also versatile musicians.
