I'm Definitely a BIG FAN

Intellectual disability is the largest single life-long handicap existing in the Philippines today, affecting 3-7% of the population. More than 30,000 are born annually with the condition, and each passing year sees a rise in this figure. Each one of these special individuals needs the same care, attention and opportunity to be treated with respect and understanding as everyone else – because in the end, we are all human.
On the same month that Presidential Proclamation Nos. 1358 and 157 calls national attention on Down Syndrome and developmental disability, Special Olympics Philippines (SOP) calls on everyone to “Be a Fan,” a movement tapping into core attributes that everyone can appreciate – unity, acceptance, empowerment, dignity, courage, strength, pride, confidence and fun – for specialindividuals to receive the treatment they rightfully deserve, a rights based one.
“It is not disability, but personality – the capability to contribute to main society, not the condition – that makes an intellectually disabled person worthy to be treated with dignity and acceptance,” shared Anton Silos, a multi-awarded  bowler from SOP, a non-profit humanitarian organization pioneered in the United States by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, created to helpindividuals with intellectual disability achieve their potentials through an organized year-round program of sports training, athletic competition, and recreation. The organization provides opportunities toindividuals , like Anton, to have enriching experiences that show courage and joy, and develop their skills and gifts. Now present in over 200 countries, SOP aims and hopes to get everyone involved in this effort.
“Be a Fan of human dignity and acceptance,” said Dr. Therese Macapagal, incumbent president of the Special Olympics Philippines board. “Be a part of the movement by advocating the message of hope to institutions, actively campaigning to stop using the word ‘retard,’ joining thousands of families who  uphold the rights of special people. Theseindividuals can be helped to reach their maximum potential as human beings if we make the conscious choice to integrate them into society.”
The “Be a Fan” movement aims to change negative perceptions or attitudes concerning intellectually disabled individuals.  Through the sharing of resources and information both medical and sociological; through awareness-raising partnerships with media, government, academe and social institutions, it invites the public to get involved in ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life of all special people.
*To join the “Be a Fan” movement, log on to http://www.sophilippines.org, or call 9266947 and find out how you can help and share your life with intellectually disabledindividuals and be part of a global advocacy that pushes for human dignity and acceptance.

Rings symbolize eternity and commitment. They are tokens of promise and signify bonds that last a lifetime.  The earliest recorded history of wedding rings comes from the Egyptians, who used plants braided and fashioned into rings and bracelets. The ancient Romans, using metal, first introduced the practice of wearing engagement rings, while the Hebrews and Christians both had their own wedding ring traditions.
It is said that wedding bands are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because the Greeks believed the vena amoris (or “vein of love”) ran from the heart to the tip of the ring finger. Medieval artisans made special embellishments for the band, often inscribing special words or messages.
Today the powerful significance of exchanging rings to symbolize the promise of commitment is the heart of the modern wedding ceremony.Choosing the right ring is important. Finding a reputable and trustworthy jeweller is key.
At F&C Jewelry, over 30 years of experience and a relationship of trust keep clients coming back. Marissa Florete Gorriceta of F&C Jewelry, a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America, says it is advisable to check the ring for the quality of materials and craftsmanship used. “It should really be made well,” she says. “I would also consider the client’s taste. Do you they want something plain or not? Sometimes the wedding band is worn with the engagement ring, so the rings should match,” says Ms. Gorriceta. While wedding bands are usually plain, an element of design adds a unique value and special meaning to the ring.
After all, the modern bride wants a perfect wedding filled with memorable and beautiful details.
Fashion designer Rajo Laurel’s distinctly feminine and romantic look, fused with modern elements and sumptuous details, makes him much sought-after for bridal designs. Tapping into another facet of his creative artistry, Rajo Laurel translates his love for fashion into a new form: fine jewellery.
In a special collaboration with F&C Jewelry, Rajo Laurel unveils a new collection of rings that are ideal as wedding bands or can be worn as personal adornment. He incorporates couture details (like rouching or quilting) and other diverse inspirations with the master craftsmanship of F&C Jewelry.
Rajo Laurel brings a new dimension to fine jewellery with his inventive designs, while F&C Jewelry offers a new and exciting line for their loyal clientele.
F&C (Florete and Caperonce) Jewelry was established in Iloilo in 1973 by husband and wife Marcelino Florete Jr. and Susan Caperonce. Over 30 years, F&C Jewelry has become a leader in jewelry making all over the country with a proud heritage and impeccable reputation for integrity. JASON CASTRO LIVE AT THE AYALA MALLS THIS MARCH!

“Let’s Just Fall In Love Again” A Sweet-Summer-Lovin’ Tune Off His
‘Love Uncompromised’ EP

Those who watched Jason Castro on the seventh season of American Idol are by now familiar with his likeably down-to-earth personality and aw-shucks demeanor. When he opens his mouth to sing, it’s like watching a totally different person. Any off-beat quirkiness seems to fall away when his authentic maturity and spell-binding voice melts the hearts of every listener.

This March get mesmerized while Jason Castro belts out colorful summer lovin’ tunes in Manila! You’re in for a sweet summer and post-Valentine treat from Warner Music Philippines and the The Ayala Malls as Jason Castro is looking forward to serenading his Manila & Cebu fans. Catch him live at these series of shows on March 18 – Trinoma, March 19 – Glorietta 5, March 20 – Ayala Center Cebu and March 21 – Market! Market!

Castro—A multi-talented singer and guitarist, was among the most popular and talented artists in American Idol history, entering the record books as the first contestant to play an instrument on the show. His performance of the Leonard Cohen-penned classic “Hallelujah” proved such an audience favorite that the late, great Jeff Buckley’s rendition of the song hit #1 on the iTunes chart the following week, selling an astonishing 178,000 digital singles. Jason scored a chart-topping single of his own a few weeks later with his interpretation of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” which also hit #1 on iTunes after a show-stopping performance of the song on American Idol. Upon the season’s conclusion, Castro was among the stars of the hugely successful “American Idols LIVE! 2008 Tour 2008”

The 22-year-old Texan earned himself a devoted fan base eager to hear what he would do once freed to perform his own songs. Those folks will get their chance with the release of Castro’s self-titled debut album on Atlantic Records. His season’s winner, David Cook, and runner-up, David Archuleta, both released debut albums about six months after the season finale. But no one rushed Jason Castro to pin down his style, and he certainly didn’t rush himself. It’s among the most sure-footed records, debut or otherwise, by an “Idol” contestant from any season. Partly that’s because Mr. Castro has had time to marinate, and to woodshed.

The heydays of the two David’s are over, it’s time to make way for Jason Castro’s music to fill the days of your summer and forward. Coming soon the Philippines is his The Love Uncompromised EP, a prelude to a full album this set to be released at a later date under Warner Music Philippines. For now you can enjoy “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again” on you cell phone and get the heart-on-sleeve and toe-tapping pop ring tune when you text JC to 5677!

Complete Tiger Woods Statement

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Text of Tiger Woods' statement Friday, as transcribed by ASAP Sports:

Good morning, and thank you for joining me. Many of you in this room are my friends. Many of you in this room know me. Many of you have cheered for me or you've worked with me or you've supported me.

Now every one of you has good reason to be critical of me. I want to say to each of you, simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior I engaged in.

I know people want to find out how I could be so selfish and so foolish. People want to know how I could have done these things to my wife Elin and to my children. And while I have always tried to be a private person, there are some things I want to say.

Elin and I have started the process of discussing the damage caused by my behavior. As Elin pointed out to me, my real apology to her will not come in the form of words; it will come from my behavior over time. We have a lot to discuss; however, what we say to each other will remain between the two of us.

I am also aware of the pain my behavior has caused to those of you in this room. I have let you down, and I have let down my fans. For many of you, especially my friends, my behavior has been a personal disappointment. To those of you who work for me, I have let you down personally and professionally. My behavior has caused considerable worry to my business partners.

To everyone involved in my foundation, including my staff, board of directors, sponsors, and most importantly, the young students we reach, our work is more important than ever. Thirteen years ago, my dad and I envisioned helping young people achieve their dreams through education. This work remains unchanged and will continue to grow. From the Learning Center students in Southern California to the Earl Woods scholars in Washington, D.C., millions of kids have changed their lives, and I am dedicated to making sure that continues.

But still, I know I have bitterly disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I am embarrassed that I have put you in this position.

For all that I have done, I am so sorry.

I have a lot to atone for, but there is one issue I really want to discuss. Some people have speculated that Elin somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night. It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that. Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever. Elin has shown enormous grace and poise throughout this ordeal. Elin deserves praise, not blame.

The issue involved here was my repeated irresponsible behavior. I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated. What I did is not acceptable, and I am the only person to blame.

I stopped living by the core values that I was taught to believe in. I knew my actions were wrong, but I convinced myself that normal rules didn't apply. I never thought about who I was hurting. Instead, I thought only about myself. I ran straight through the boundaries that a married couple should live by. I thought I could get away with whatever I wanted to. I felt that I had worked hard my entire life and deserved to enjoy all the temptations around me. I felt I was entitled. Thanks to money and fame, I didn't have to go far to find them.

I was wrong. I was foolish. I don't get to play by different rules. The same boundaries that apply to everyone apply to me. I brought this shame on myself. I hurt my wife, my kids, my mother, my wife's family, my friends, my foundation, and kids all around the world who admired me.

I've had a lot of time to think about what I've done. My failures have made me look at myself in a way I never wanted to before. It's now up to me to make amends, and that starts by never repeating the mistakes I've made. It's up to me to start living a life of integrity.

I once heard, and I believe it's true, it's not what you achieve in life that matters; it's what you overcome. Achievements on the golf course are only part of setting an example. Character and decency are what really count.

Parents used to point to me as a role model for their kids. I owe all those families a special apology. I want to say to them that I am truly sorry.

It's hard to admit that I need help, but I do. For 45 days from the end of December to early February, I was in inpatient therapy receiving guidance for the issues I'm facing. I have a long way to go. But I've taken my first steps in the right direction.

As I proceed, I understand people have questions. I understand the press wants to ask me for the details and the times I was unfaithful. I understand people want to know whether Elin and I will remain together. Please know that as far as I'm concerned, every one of these questions and answers is a matter between Elin and me. These are issues between a husband and a wife.

Some people have made up things that never happened. They said I used performance-enhancing drugs. This is completely and utterly false. Some have written things about my family. Despite the damage I have done, I still believe it is right to shield my family from the public spotlight. They did not do these things; I did.

I have always tried to maintain a private space for my wife and children. They have been kept separate from my sponsors, my commercial endorsements. When my children were born, we only released photographs so that the paparazzi could not chase them. However, my behavior doesn't make it right for the media to follow my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to school and report the school's location. They staked out my wife and they pursued my mom. Whatever my wrongdoings, for the sake of my family, please leave my wife and kids alone.

I recognize I have brought this on myself, and I know above all I am the one who needs to change. I owe it to my family to become a better person. I owe it to those closest to me to become a better man. That's where my focus will be.

I have a lot of work to do, and I intend to dedicate myself to doing it. Part of following this path for me is Buddhism, which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don't realize it, but I was raised a Buddhist, and I actively practiced my faith from childhood until I drifted away from it in recent years. Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught.

As I move forward, I will continue to receive help because I've learned that's how people really do change. Starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy. I would like to thank my friends at Accenture and the players in the field this week for understanding why I'm making these remarks today.

In therapy I've learned the importance of looking at my spiritual life and keeping in balance with my professional life. I need to regain my balance and be centered so I can save the things that are most important to me, my marriage and my children.

That also means relying on others for help. I've learned to seek support from my peers in therapy, and I hope someday to return that support to others who are seeking help. I do plan to return to golf one day, I just don't know when that day will be.

I don't rule out that it will be this year. When I do return, I need to make my behavior more respectful of the game. In recent weeks I have received many thousands of e-mails, letters and phone calls from people expressing good wishes. To everyone who has reached out to me and my family, thank you. Your encouragement means the world to Elin and me.

I want to thank the PGA TOUR, Commissioner Finchem, and the players for their patience and understanding while I work on my private life. I look forward to seeing my fellow players on the course.

Finally, there are many people in this room, and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today I want to ask for your help. I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again.

Thank you.

WHAT IS BROMHEXINE?

Bromhexine was discovered in the Asian plant Adhatoda vasica. Its dried leaves were administered as a tea against cough and asthma in India for its secretolytic action.

Bromhexine is effective in stimulating secretion of fluid by the mucous glands of the respiratory tract, thereby improving air passage in the lungs. Bromhexine was developed in the research laboratories of Boehringer Ingelheim in the late 1950s as an active ingredient for pharmaceutical use.

Thanks to this mucus-clearing effect, Bisolvon makes it easier for the respiratory tract to eliminate phlegm naturally. It eases productive cough and helps in overcoming infections.

The Happiest Pinoys In Town

Last year, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions (CLIS) set out to find the Happiest Pinoy. A successful campaign that rekindled the values of optimism, resilience, and hope in the Filipino nation, the Search for the Happiest Pinoy brought forth many inspiring stories and exemplar citizens that truly evoke the spirit of patriotism. And after sifting through the entries, seven were shortlisted by the panel of judges.

The criteria seemed simple but were genuinely sincere. Just as CLIS highlights the positive things that come with obtaining quality and affordable insurance security, the Search for the Happiest Pinoy looked for Pinoys with an optimistic outlook in life, a cheerful disposition, the ability to rise above life’s challenges, and a positive impact in the lives of others.

Among the shortlisted Pinoys is Maria Kathrina L. Yarza. Even after being diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, a rare cancer that affects the nervous system, she still carries her winning smile like a medal. Yarza, despite being on a wheelchair all the time, was able to establish a fund-raising project, Help My Ear Hear, to support others who have hearing disabilities. She also solicits help for patients in the Philippine General Hospital’s pediatric ward.

Another finalist is Caloocan Rotary Club president Gerardo Gamez. From a high school student selling newspapers to earn his keep, Gamez was able to finish college through a scholarship and move forward in life. Even with one arm amputated, he was able to excel in sales because of his product demonstrations. Binalot's Leaf of Faith

Real CSR means Sustainability
Corporate Social Responsibility has become a key endeavor for a lot of companies, both local and multi-national, the idea being to give back something to the community it serves. However, a lot of CSR activities are focused on providing short-term assistance only (i.e. dole outs) instead of developing a long-term program.

Recognizing this, Rommel Juan thought of developing a sustainable program that benefits both the company and the community. “For CSR programs to make sense, a project should be a “win-win” proposition that can be sustained over a long-term instead of a one-shot deal,” explains Juan adding that this is the reason why his company – Binalot Fiesta Foods – came up with the DAHON (Dangal At Hanapbuhay para sa Nayon) Program.

The DAHON program was launched in 2007 to help banana farmers from Nagcarlan, Laguna, where Binalot sources the banana leaves used to wrap meals. “The program helps them earn more by buying their banana leaves, which assures them of income on top of banana sales and ensures a steady supply of banana leaves for us,” explains Juan.

Aside from economic sustainability, the program has also empowered the women and elderly of the community according to Robie Mateo, Program Coordinator. He further shares, “Women now earn around 200 pesos a day from cutting banana leaves while the elderly are given a sense of purpose because even at their age they are being productive by assisting in cutting and preparing leaves.”
The environment also benefits since leaf trimmings are used as compost material at the community level. “Our commissary used to throw the banana leaf trimmings away but the community found a way to make use of them. This has helped strengthen our commitment to the environment,” explains Mateo.
Binalot now wants to expand its CSR operations by adopting more communities. “The program has been going on for the past two years and has helped a lot of banana farmers and their families. We want to see this happen in more communities. Of course, we would need help from other organizations and individuals in replicating and spreading it.”

For more information about Binalot’s DAHON Program, contact Robie Mateo of Binalot Foundation Secretariat 481-6155, 0922-8573284.

Limousine Dreams

If I had the money to spend on a vacation. I would definitely hire a limousine. You will be able to make the most out of your time and you will be able to enjoy the whole experience all together. If you are visiting someone in New York then you will also be able to relish the experience of a Brooklyn limousine service. You might want to take the person you are visiting for a ride in your limo services.

You and the person you visit will be able to take advantage of the cheap limousine New York has to offer. You will be dazzled by the sights and I'm sure that you and your guest you will never forget the superb service of the discount limousine New York has offered.

I truly believe that you get what you pay for. So why not splurge if you can afford it right? Who doesn't want professional service. I would really appreciate chauffeurs who will take me  to the appointed destinations and a guided tour would also be great.

Regrets

If there's one thing that I regret its not being able to watch a show on Broadway. I would have wanted to see The Addams Family. I mean it's the Adams Family portrait you’ve never seen before. Gomez, all mad impetuosity, Morticia, equal parts fire and ice, Fester, restless and romantic, Pugsley, for whom immediate gratification can’t come soon enough and Wednesday, eighteen years old and finally feeling what it means to be a woman. A family that’s quite shockingly, and endearingly, just like yours. You can be sure I will save The Adams family tickets and will be putting it in my scrapbook.

My 2 year old loves Taylor Swift and I wouldn't be surprised that she'll be asking me to buy her
Taylor Swift Tickets when she turns 8. .That or take her to watch Houston Rodeo Tickets. It's a decision that I don't want to make.

I hope it won't be long till we travel again and by then I know that the choices will no longer limited.

Valentines Day

An all-star ensemble cast comes together in "Valentine's Day," which follows the intertwining storylines of a diverse group of Los Angelenos as they navigate their way through romance and heartbreak over the course of one Valentine's Day. Couples and singles experience the pinnacles and pitfalls of finding, keeping or ending relationships in a day in the life of love.

The Cast:
Directed by veteran filmmaker Garry Marshall, the film stars Jessica Alba ("Fantastic Four"), Academy Award  winner Kathy Bates ("Misery"), Jessica Biel ("I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry"), Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover"), Eric Dane (TV's "Grey's Anatomy"), Patrick Dempsey ("Enchanted"), Hector Elizondo (the "Princess Diaries" films), Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx ("Ray"), Jennifer Garner ("Juno"), Topher Grace ("Spider-Man 3"), Academy Award® nominee Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married"), Ashton Kutcher ("What Happens in Vegas"), Academy Award® nominee Queen Latifah ("Chicago"), Taylor Lautner ("The Twilight Saga: New Moon"), George Lopez ("Beverly Hills Chihuahua"), Academy Award® winner Shirley MacLaine ("Terms of Endearment"), Emma Roberts ("Hotel for Dogs"), Academy Award® winner Julia Roberts ("Erin Brockovich") and award-winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, in her feature film debut.

My Review:

For fans of bonbons and Hallmark sentiment who wish Valentine's Day lasted forever, Garry Marshall's movie arrives like the answer to a prayer. "Valentine's Day" is yet another Hollywood romantic comedy that's all but devoid of romance and laughs.

Valentine’s Day, an ensemble comedy cut that wants us to think that it was sewn from the same fabric as Love Actually and He’s Just Not That Into You, tells intertwining stories that tries to intersect at odd angles during 24 hours on one particular Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles. It’s a romantic movie stuffed with so much candy that you would probably want water to just wash it down a bit.

Directed by Garry Marshall, this movie brings together an “all-star cast” (by today’s dubious definition, anyway) that runs the gamut from better singer than actress Flavor of the Moment Taylor Swift and better shirtless Taylor Lautner to veteran Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine. Some make seismic tremors. Others barely show up on a Geiger counter. All have appeared in better venues elsewhere. The theory that even in this crazy world that the Blackberry is your best friend and that every needs a burst of love every February is shown by a bottomless and inexhaustible serendipity.

The characters include a TV sportscaster (Jamie Foxx) dispatched by his crazy program director (Kathy Bates) to do a fluff piece at a downtown flower market, and a happy and in love florist (Ashton Kutcher) who gets dumped by his self-centered fiancée who everyone doesn't like but no one really tells him.His best friend (Jennifer Garner), a schoolteacher, is left alone in bed by the dashing, newly divorced doctor she loves (Patrick Dempsey of Grey’s Anatomy), who says he’s flying to San Francisco on “business.” Meanwhile, the handsome liar turns up at the flower shop to buy red roses for somebody else before driving his red convertible home to his wife and family.

In a Malibu beach house, a superstar sex-symbol quarterback (another hunky Grey’s Anatomy star, Eric Dane) announces his retirement from football to the horror of his butch press agent (Queen Latifah), who is struggling to keep his hottie image alive while breaking in a new motorcycle-riding receptionist (Anne Hathaway), who earns extra money as a phone-sex expert. May I also mention  high school girl (Emma Roberts) who's openly scheduling a virginity-ending session with her boyfriend (Carter Jenkins).

The part I liked the least was when Ashton was Grappling with airport security at LAX while heading her off from a wild goose chase to San Francisco to find the doctor. In the end of course the florist ends up locking lips with the schoolteacher, while two strangers (Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper) wake up together on an approaching 14-hour flight. Their roles I have to admit were really unpredictable.Did I even hesitate to even mention Shirley MacLaine and Hector Elizondo as Estelle and Edgar, two old grandparents who fall out over one of the wife’s old affairs, which must have even happened before a Man walked on the Moon.

The best scene in Valentine’s Day is a party in an Indian restaurant for people who hate Valentine’s Day. Should you see it? Only if you want to prove me wrong
