Whiteout
The Plot:
For U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, things are about to get even more dangerous. The only law enforcement in this unforgiving territory, she has just been sent to investigate a body on the ice. Antarctica's first homicide. A shocking discovery in itself, it will plunge her into an even more bizarre mystery and the revelation of secrets long-buried under the endless ice--secrets that someone believes are still worth killing for. As Stetko races to find the killer before he finds her, winter is already closing in. In the deadly Antarctic whiteout, she won't see him till he's a breath away.
My Take:
The trailer looked like there were some kind of monsters in all that darkness that was the Antartic. Turns out, the only monsters I saw were the set pieces and the special effects, which were average at best. Totally misleading as I never would have seen the plot of this movie coming.
In the relm of good movies for this year, Whiteout ranks in the lower 5% of that I have seen. The story line is weak, the plot is boring, and there are few events that are not predicted by the first 20 minutes of less-than-robust action. The addition of a "whiteout" storm added only moderate suspense to a lifeless story. The lack of special effects was only slightly more noticeable than the lack of thematic coherence guiding the audience from the beginning to the end of the movie.
It wasn't horrible, just had a weak storyline. Not too exciting or clever. Just really, ok. Not a total waste of time, just a partial waste. It's very very very average and could be a made-for-tv movie quite easily. As a matter of fact they can run on TV with no editing or scenes cut.
