ELECTRICITY RATES GO DOWN IN SEPTEMBER

Meralco announced that overall electricity rates thisSeptember went down by Php 0.0451 per kilowatthour (kWh) for its residential customers. Householdsconsuming 200 kWh will experience a reduction of around Php 9 in their electricity bill. Meralco Public Information Office Head Joe Zaldarriaga (in photo) explained that the overall rate decrease was due to the downward movement in the transmission charge, which more than offset a higher generation charge. Meralco also relaunched its mobile app called MOVE (Meralco Virtual Engine), which has a new ‘Orange Tag’ section. Users can now check how much it would cost to use specific appliances. Download the Meralco MOVE App for free on the AppStore and Google Play Store. For tips and other information, visit www.meralco.com.ph or follow its Twitter (@meralco) or Facebook (facebook.com/meralco) accounts.

The new collections provide the necessary tools to combat the climate shifts while emphasizing essential weather-beating benefits. The innovative sneaker collections feature a bold mix of colors and materials including water repellent canvas, rubber and leather, and waterproof neoprene. Divided into three unique categories:  Shield Canvas, Leatherand Rubber-- these collections are intended to stand up against the unpredictable inclement weather.

Each sneaker has been treated to help tackle rainy weather while maintaining comfort and style. The Converse Counter Climate Shield Canvas sneakers have been given a DWR (durable water repellant) treatment, standing guard as the first line of defense against the rain.

NABH International Accredits Cabrini Medical Center

NABH International Accredits Cabrini Medical Center as its first in Southeast Asia The National Accreditation Board for Hospital International (NABH International) continues to support the Philippines in gaining international accreditation in the field of healthcare. The latest accreditation was awarded to St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center. A non-profit organization, NABH International is recognized by International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). One of the organization’s main objective is to redefine healthcare quality in the developing worlds but at the same time, providing accreditation with an affordable cost. The organization has seen their main objective being imbibed by this world-class provincial medical center. St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center, located in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, has always held on to their mission statement which is to passionately strive in providing healthcare needs and deliver high quality healthcare service to improve lives.

The hospital has aimed to provide excellent service to the entire Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region. They have achieved various milestones one of which is to be one of the only four hospitals in Southern Tagalog accredited as a Center of Excellence by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). It has also been the chosen venue for international medical missions targeting indigent people of Region IV and V that do not have access to proper medical care. These missions support the hospital’s advocacy and that is to ensure that they extend the same quality of service to everyone who goes inside their hospital doors who is in need of medical care. “St. Frances Cabrini has complied with all the standards of NABH International. This ranks them at par with the best hospitals in the world in terms of patient care and patient safety.” NABH Director Dr. BK Rana stated who was also one of the assessors. St. Frances Cabrini is the only hospital who is a participant in the United Nations Global Compact Initiative. An organization that is anchored in the practice of human rights, fair labor practice, and protection against corrupt practices. "Although our hospital had all the universal equipment and qualified specialists all these years, the hospital achieved NABH accreditation only when it thoroughly started following all the NABH norms of documentation, patient safety and patient education.

The NABH accreditation is actually more for the interest of the patients’ care and safety as it ensures best treatment for patient," said Dr. John Cresencio F. Alonzo, SFCMC President/COO. Joyce Socao-Alumno, NABH Philippines Representative and Country Head of Aster DM Healthcare says, “Accreditation is beyond licensing which is the basic requirement for hospitals and even more than ISO certification. Accreditation is a tool that is meant to assist hospitals achieve excellence by benchmarking with the best of the best. A hospital cannot claim it is world-class if there is no third party expert to say that what they are indeed of global standard.

NABH International, just like JCI, is recognized by the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQUA) as an accredited agency that audits hospitals against the global standards of patient care and patient safety. These assessors were trained and licensed to do the audit. The NABH International assessment is more than lip service. It involves audit of the entire organization of the hospital from the CEO down to the lowest ranking staff, and every nook and corner of the facility.” Having an international accreditation also gives the Philippines the opportunity to explore the medical tourism industry that is currently on an uptrend.

St. Frances Cabrini is the first to be proclaimed as a Medical Tourism Special Economic Zone. Another achievement under the hospital’s long list of distinctions. The NABH International plans to continue extending their international accreditation to the Middle East and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. The process may be tedious but once the organization completed and passed the assessments, they will be accredited for three years. “This accreditation does not only target city hospitals. NABH International also provides accreditation to small health care organizations, wellness centers and blood banks to name a few. Each category has a set of standards that they need to comply with.

These organizations may apply under the relevant accreditation program that depends on the services that they offer. Hopefully, more hospitals and wellness centers in the Philippines will achieve international accreditation in order for the Philippines to gain global acceptance in the field of healthcare,” Alumno added

High-five to Torayvino Water Purifier

If you believe that the water delivered to your house, either by the usual utility firm or refilling station, is potable and safe for you and your family, think again. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors that may compromise the quality of drinking water, whether coming from the kitchen faucet or filtered and bottled.

Considering the unreliability of piping systems in the country, the water distributed by major concessionaires and local water districts may not be fit for drinking as it can be adulterated by old, dilapidated or illicit pipe connections. Water from refilling stations dotting almost everywhere, on the other hand, comes mostly in non-BPA containers, which are also not guaranteed to be properly cleaned 100% of the time, and may be exposed to pollutants during preparation, storage or delivery.

Good thing there is the Torayvino Water Purifier––a new filtration solution now available in the local market. Torayvino promises effective remedy to the many hassles linked to having your water sourced from the tap or delivered right at your doorsteps.

Here are the five best reasons why this should be your top choice:

1. The four-stage purification system. Producing a 99.99 percent bacteria-free water is, without any doubt, possible with Torayvino. This is because of its four stages of filtration. At first, when the water undergoes the prescreen process, impurities larger than 465 microns, such as rust, sands, sediment and particles are initially taken away. Those larger than 114 microns are then removed in the second screen. Elimination of residual chlorine, harmful chemicals and bad smell comes next as the water passes through the granular activated carbon. It is the optimal hollow fiber membrane structure that lastly removes contaminants larger than 0.1 micron, including the bacteria and other microorganisms, rust, turbidity, and microscopic impurities. This technology, which is also used in dialysis machines and artificial kidneys, provides low elution and high flow rate of water. Interestingly, calcium, magnesium and other essential minerals are retained even during filtration. So demineralization of water is never a problem with this kind of technology.

2. Powerful yet compact. Being a faucet-mounted water purifier, Torayvino is so handy and small that it fits at the palm of your hands. It is easy-to-install, without the need for plumbing. Each unit has a set of attachments designed to match any size of kitchen faucets available in the market. It is indeed space-saving, compact and portable, perfect for condo residents, particularly those who dwell in smaller units.

3. Pocket- and Earth-friendly. This technology is more reasonable than what you can get from water delivery. While each of Torayvino's four models is priced from P1,980 to P4,980, it actually offers savings in the long run since it only costs the buyers P0.92 per liter, versus P1.85 a liter for water bought from refilling stations. Unlike other water purifiers, it's more eco-friendly due to its unfiltered spray that allows consumers to save water up to 30 percent. What's more, it operates without electricity, thus helping minimize the household carbon footprint.

4. Trusted technology. Made in Japan, users cannot go wrong with Torayvino in ensuring the health of their family. This holds true to the most technologically advanced country's global reputation for quality and attention to details. Such confidence is further sealed by the brand's conformity with the Japan Industrial Standards. Not to mention, of course, is the certification and approval it gained from the Philippine Department of Health. These are what set it apart from majority of water refilling stations on record that is not consistently compliant with the government-imposed registration and operation requirements.

5. Leading brand. Manufactured by a diversified company called Toray Industries, Inc., this purifying solution has a strong presence in Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Central America and South America. It's a dominant brand in Japan, with 66 percent share of the market for the faucet-mounted type. In the Philippines, this product is exclusively distributed by homegrown company Moduvi, Inc. Currently, it is available in modern hardwares like True Value and All Home, as well as condo-partners.

Hooray for Toray! This multinational corporation packed the most technologically advanced and efficient featuresin the compact Torayvino Water Purifier, making it a trulyrelevant product of its kind in today's time.
