GIVE A JAPANESE OMIYAGE THIS HOLIDAY

Of all the holidays, Christmas is known to be the Season of Giving. This season, Hattendo offers you omiyage in furoshiki.

Omiyage is the Japanese version of Filipino pasalubong. Though unique in their own way, both omiyage and pasalubong is given to family and friends as a token.Furoshiki, on the other hand, is an ancient Japanese tradition. It is a method of wrapping gifts and carrying items such as bento boxes, bottles or even books, using only a piece of cloth.

When Hattendo opened its first store in the Philippines, it was introduced as Japan's coolest omiyage. In fact it is so popular in Hiroshima, people line up outside its store in Mihara early in the morning just to get first pick of the cream buns. Mihara store serves about 500 buns, and always sold out before noon.Give your loved ones something unique, Hattendo Japanese cream buns wrapped in Furoshiki this holiday season!

IACADEMY The School of The future

How do you choose the right school> Do you base it on course? Specialty? Prestige?

The truth is, there is no single answer to this. But if you had to put your future into the hands of one school, wouldn’t one that combines theoretical expertise with practice experience be the logical answer?

“The role of higher education, as far as iACADEMY is concerned, is to equip students with the capability to excel inside the classroom, and more importantly, outside the walls of the institution. Our school is proud of the fact that we are able to cross traditional academic boundaries through an integrative and immersive approach to learning, across some of the most in-demand industries today,” says Ms. Vanessa Tanco, President and CEO of iACADEMY.

Hatendo Opens in Greenhills

It wasn't long ago when Hattendo opened its first store in the Philippines.  It was in the middle of May 2015, at Mega Fashion Hall SM Megamall, where people lined up to get a taste of Hiroshima's most popular cream bun!

All cream buns are baked and hand wrapped in Hiroshima, Japan, then shipped frozen to the Philippines, Korea and Taiwan.  Thawing is done 24 hours prior to serving/selling, under strict temperature management.

The store's design is patterned after Japan's style, with visible wood grain finish.  Cream buns are displayed in an enclosed glass chiller, maintaining 5°C, as per Japan's standards for best quality.

Hattendo's second store opened almost simultaneously with the first, in one of the biggest mall in the metro, SM Mall of Asia.

Six months after the succesful opening of the first two stores, Hattendo has opened its third store in Greenhills Theatre Mall.

Unlike the first two stores, this one is different because it is an inline kiosk and there is a counter table top across, where customers can rest and bite into the creamy goodness of Hattendo buns.

Drinks are also offered as perfect combination to the delicious cream buns.  Customers may choose from any of the following beverage: canned coffee, milk, flavored tea or water. All drinks are served chilled, just like the cream buns. Bundle order starts at P250. It comes with 2 pcs cream bun and 1 drink.

Come visit Hattendo and sink your teeth into the famous Hiroshima cream buns, available in seven delectable flavors: custard, whipped cream, matcha, chocolate, azuki, mango, andchestnut.  Cream buns are sold at P118 per piece.  It is also available in pack of 4 (P420) and box of 6 (P600).

Stand Out With Fat Out

They say a healthy tummy is a healthy body. Digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea or flatulence can easily turn a peachy day into a ruined one. Consider colon cleansing. Proponents of colon cleansing believe that removing toxins and body wastes from the colon can help you feel better and improve your bodily functions. As an added bonus, if you’re trying to lessen heaviness and decrease your risk of acquiring colon cancer, colon cleansing achieves both. To aide you with colon cleansing, there’s FatOut.

FatOut contains the revolutionary Sweep and Shred Formula which helps in cleansing your colon and trimming down your fat. Psyllium Husk sweeps and cleans the toxins in your colon, while Green Tea Extract shreds and burns your fat. Other ingredients include: Pu’er Tea Extract which eliminates hard-to-digest fat, Aloe Vera Powder which detoxifies the colon, Alfalfa which nourishes the digestive system and Oat Fiber which suppresses the appetite and burns down your fat. The combination of these ingredients can help you lose the pounds without putting your health at risk. Stand out with FatOut.

FatOut should be taken daily, before every meal, preferably with a warm glass of water. FatOut is available at Mercury Drug and leading drugstores nationwide for P125.00 per capsule.

The Allure of Body Sculpting

There are few things more satisfying than getting results. When it comes to sculpting physiques, even fewer can compare. With the body as a canvass, the ability to control one’s own destiny is so tangible that it becomes quite addicting. After years of obesity, one can suddenly reverse his or her situation by dedicated weight training and healthy eating. And the results can be quite life changing.
The only real opponent in body sculpting is yourself. Unfortunately, some are more successful than others as temptations cannot be completely slayed. Others take a longer time to maintain discipline. This is where Redoxfat can help.
What can help us maintain our bodies despite having cheat days are two effective ingredients for weight loss: L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract. That is why ATC Healthcare International Corp. sought out the best L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract to fit into one convenient capsule – RedoXfat. RedoXfat is a food supplement that contains 350 mg of Green Tea Extract and 150 mg of L-Carnitine.
RedoXfat’s component, L-Carnitine, is known to be effective in weight loss as it transforms the fatty acids in the body into sources of energy, thereby fueling you enough for the day. Also, having enough L-Carnitine speeds up your metabolism and improves your digestion.
However, aside from its fat-burning capacity, Green Tea Extract is known to be an effective antioxidant as it is 200x more potent than Vitamin E in fighting free radicals in the body thus lessening the chance of having cancer. It may also help in improving muscle strength and in boosting the immune system. It has the ability to detoxifying the body, reducing stress and depression and improving cognitive function.
At the affordable prize of SRP P15.00 per capsule, get rid of your fats fast, before it kills your festive mood during the holidays! Take RedoXfat every day and realize for yourself that weight loss is a life gain after all. RedoXfat is available at Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores nationwide.

Flotsam

Solenn Heussaff and Rocco Nacino’s rom-com in surf town, La Union

With charm, wit, and clever twists, not to mention a terrific pair of leads, Flotsam is this year’s maindie love anthology—8 (interweaving) love stories, offering something relatable for everyone.

A film named after a quaint artist beach hotel in San Juan, La Union, the story unfolds when a work-obsessed overachiever Kai (Solenn Heussaff) arrives in an Elysian Surf Town to run away from a volatile relationship. Kai hides at Flotsam where she meets Tisoy (Rocco Nacino), a very mysterious local bartender who became her summer fling and perfect antidote to restiveness. It contains about a dozen more characters who are in love – that’s however an approximate figure because some of them fall out of love while others double up or change partners. Each interleaving with the other in a grid of foreshadowing and disquiet.

The poetic keynote to the film comes from one of the child actors’ examination about that ‘goddamn love’ the adults are talking about, to which Tisoy explained, “Ang love, walang libro diyan… Kailangan subukan.”

With Flotsam, filmmaker and writer Jay Abello establishes himself as one of the most exciting and distinctive directors around. His new film contains sweeping visual style, while the dialogues deliver a jolt to your consciousness. While most of its mainstream counterparts would go for just gloss and shine, Abello gunned for simple and heartwarming attack.

Right from the opening credits, Flotsam endears itself with scenic views of La Union – the northern sun, beach, waves, magnificent falls, and of course, chicks in bikinis! The intrepid traveler cum film buffs are granted much more to explore.

The film also gathers around live music, originally written for the film by Eraserheads guitarist, Surfernando Marcus Adoro, and Flotsam Folk Yeah! Family Band, Mia Sebastian & Kiddo Cosio. The songs were not only sung live, but also recorded real-time in true jamming sessions to reflect the real musicality of the place. Look forward to songs performed by actors, Solenn Heussaff, Marc Abaya, Carla Humphries, Franco Daza, and up & coming, Julia Quisumbing!

The actors, the soundtrack, and the location have proven to be pretty potent. The product is a love story as real as it gets.

#FlotsamTheMovie also stars an ensemble of endearing cast including Carla Humphries, Marc Abaya, Mara Lopez, Franco Daza, Zack Varkaris, Jun King Austria, Barbara Miguel, Adrian Cabido, Gerard Garcia, Anja Peter, and introducing, Julia Quisimbing with local actors Jeff Ortega and Lemon.

Flotsam, a film by Jay Abello is showing November 4 in cinemas nationwide

Sugarleaf Makati offers New Workshop

Sugarleaf Makati recently held a gathering to launch another signature raw food preparation series. Attendees learned a lot about raw food preparation from UP cum laude graduate and Bali-certified raw chef Sonia Astudillo who partners with Sugarleaf Makati for a series of raw food workshops in November through to April 2016. As part of its 4th anniversary activities, the thanksgiving event saw loot bags and raffle prizes of healthy treats being given to attendees, some of whom have supported Sugarleaf Makati since its opening on November 2011. Partner merchants Matstone slow juicer and Vitamix high speed blender demonstrated some healthful and delicious recipes to the delight of the visitors!!
Sugarleaf Makati is a one-stop resource assisting those on different stages of their journey towards health and wellness.
Diners savour an all-day dining menu showcasing the use of organic produce (not necessarily vegetarian or vegan though we’ve options). They have fresh organic salads and appetisers, hot soups as well as ‘sweet fools’-cool fruit-based soups, warm crust sandwiches, paninis and pitas, organic rice meals with free-range chicken, organic pork, grass-fed beef and ocean sea farm-raised bangus and home-made fettucini and ravioli. Real energising hot and cold beverages, desserts and vegan dairy-free ice cream using natural sweeteners powered up with superfood complement and complete the dining experience.
Their menu is simple, nothing too fancy or gourmet, just allowing the organic ingredients’ freshness and health benefits be highlighted.
They wish to dispel misconceptions that healthy doesn’t taste good, is expensive, difficult to prepare, and is mostly just vegetables. For us, there is room in a healthy diet for some animal products, dairy and eggs as long as these are grown organically or naturally.

Sugarleaf Makati celebrates 4th anniversary with Raw Food Is The New Hot
Sugarleaf Makati continues its 4th anniversary celebrations with #RawFoodIsTheNewHot: a five-part workshop series with UP-cum laude graduate and Bali-certified raw chef Sonia Astudillo. “We are thrilled to be doing what we do best–organise a series of raw classes which our customers, loyal and new appreciate will surely learn a lot from.” Sugarleafer Angelo Narciso Songco shares.

#RawFoodIsTheNewHot will guide students to raw food whether they are in it for the long haul or a quickie adventure,” said Chef Sonia, who’s been teaching raw food classes in Manila since June 2013. Attendees learn a lot from each class and builds up one’s knowledge about raw food, benefits of ingredients, going organic, superfoods and more.

At the end of the day, we decide what is best for us and how committed we are to a certain lifestyle. In my classes, students are introduced to the perks of a healthy raw vegan lifestyle and an array of dishes–most of which are considered the healthier alternatives to the real but not so healthy thing. Classes are held in a very relaxed, home visit like style that welcomes people from all walks of life. Home is the place where you are accepted as you are – whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, raw foodist, meat eater, or an optionarian. In my classes, it’s all about how you feel and how your body reacts to raw food,” said Chef Sonia.

#RawFoodIsTheNewHot will discuss the benefits of raw vegan lifestyle and why it is gaining popularity among the healthy community. “Years ago, we wanted fancy, elaborate dishes. Now we’re moving back to basic, unprocessed food,” observed Chef Sonia.
Join each or all classes and leave feeling at home in your own body.

Step Down Abaya

It's so sad when you hear a government official who is supposed to be protecting the interests of the common man like DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya bluntly say Traffic is not fatal. The mess in traffic and the breakdown in the transport system may not be fatal but it's something that could have been prevented. Like in the case of the MRT if Sumitomo is incharge then MRT would not have been in this mess in the first place. They want to take the MRT from the private owners but it's a cesspool for corruption. They increased the fare for the MRT and yet the services have gone from bad to worse.

All-in-one laundry solution for all-around moms

Family always comes first, especially for Filipino moms. No matter how busy they are, Filipino moms ensure they provide the best for their family with their small and grand gestures of love and concern.

In fact, Filipino moms being hands-on goes as far as personally doing the laundry of family members, no matter how wearisome it may get. To help them with this concern, Samsung Digital Appliances introduced a new washing machine that offers an innovative solution made to fit Filipino moms perfectly.

The new washing machine from Samsung comes with features that suit the needs of modern moms and solve the most talked about problems in clothes-washing – labor intensive, inefficient cleaning, and damaged clothes.

For moms, pre-treating is considered a necessary starting point in the laundry process as they feel that hand and machine washing should be combined to ensure efficient cleaning. However, this step is often considered the most grueling step for many since it is usually done in a squatting position.
Samsung Digital Appliances understand these concerns and took them into consideration as they create the newest Samsung fully automatic washing machine with ActivDualWash.

The ActivDualWash is designed not just to make the pre-treating practice more convenient, but also to revolutionize the Filipino laundry process. To lessen the frequent squatting and bending, it features a dedicated sink, washboard, and water jet, at a convenient place for pre-treating, eliminating the need for moms to work in a squatting position. This reduces back pain as much as 43 percent*. This configuration also provides on-demand water supply, allows effortless scrubbing, and supports hassle-free laundry transfer.

In addition, the Samsung fully automatic washing machine with ActivDualWash also introduces three innovative features including Wobble technology, Magic Filter, and Magic Dispenser, that address Filipino mom’s demand for cleaner and undamaged clothes. Creating a powerful vertical wash motion, the Wobble technology ensures gentle clean and undamaged fabric through preventing tangles and twists. The Magic Dispenser, on the other hand, dissolves detergent through a powerful vortex to guarantee no detergent residues remain on washed clothes. The Magic Filter feature effectively gathers lint and other foreign substances for lint-free clothes and clog-free drainage. These innovations work together to ensure superior fabric care like no other.

These features, included in the latest Samsung fully automatic washing machine with ActivDualWash, address the most common laundering concerns faced by Filipino moms. Aside from these innovative features, the Samsung fully automatic washing machine with ActivDualWash also offers 11 years warranty on its Digital Inverter Technology, which uses less energy, makes less noise, and creates less wear and tear.

Indeed, Samsung fully automatic washing machine with ActivDualWash is the all-in-one laundry solution of hands-on Filipino moms. Beyond cleaning and fabric care, the appliance helps Filipino moms to provide the best for themselves and their family, as lesser time and effort are needed to achieve the best cleaned clothes. Thanks to Samsung Digital Appliances, Filipino moms now have more quality time to enjoy with their loved ones.

Preventing Food Intolerance

Did you know? 99% of Filipinos suffer from food intolerance.

Reactions to certain foods are quite common. However, some reactions go unnoticed until certain abnormal manifestations occur – internally (physiological) or externally (physical, i.e. on skin).Where food ALLERGY has almost an immediate reaction, food INTOLERANCE, on the other hand, does not immediately manifest. Sometimes, it takes as much several months or as short as days for symptoms to be obvious.

According to Nutrition and Lifestyle Counselor Ginny Sinense-Marksl, RND, food intolerance often occurs in people who eat normal or even very common food substance (rice, egg, dairy, wheat) that they are highly sensitive to. These foods cause inflammations in their body that could manifest as allergy-like reactions such as diarrhea, bloating, stomach cramps and at times, skin rashes that almost never seem to subside. Also, it could be one of the major reasons why it is difficult to manage any weight problem.

Food intolerance may involve some or all the same symptoms as food allergies. “While food allergies are acute reactions to a particular food substance and can cause life-threatening symptoms, food intolerance is chronic and less severe but, nevertheless aggravating to optimum health,” said Marksl.

A number of reactions surface when a person is found to be intolerant on a specific food item. However, some people could still eat small amounts of food they are “intolerant” to without any immediate physiological or physical reaction.

Though minimum to no immediate reaction occurs, chronic exposure to a food substance a person is intolerant to can be potentially hazardous to health due to constant presence of inflammation in the body as Marksl further explained.

Food Intolerance is a type III food item that occurs when the body produces Immunoglobulin (IgG) as a reaction to allergenic food.

Immunoglobulin are a class of proteins that function as antibodies produced by the immune system in response to foreign bodies that enter the body. Various studies reveal that if food with high IgG levels are eliminated from the diet, symptoms can be reduced.

“Not knowing where you’re intolerant to could lead to chronic diseases such as abdominal bloating and fluid retention, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, and asthma,” said Carmie De Leon, vice president for sales and marketing of Healthway Medical. “This makes a Food Intolerance Test all the more important.”

Healthway Medical, the most trusted and preferred mall-based clinics in the Philippines, recommends every children and adult alike to undergo a Food Intolerance Test (FIT) or Food Print Test to identify which food groups are safe to eat.

FIT is the most advanced and comprehensive laboratory service that detects the presence of igG-food specific antibodies to a wide range of food people consume every day.
Healthway’s FIT is inclusive of a consultation with nutritionist to guide you through the FIT service and to explain the findings of the test.

“Not having your test now can be potentially dangerous since some people have high IgG levels but do not experience the symptoms,” De Leon said. “There are others who even feel better short after they eat food at which they are intolerant to, but continuing to take these food groups may re-grow the symptoms to much worse cases. Still, once symptoms occur, it is recommended to avoid all other members of that food group unless tested negatively.”

De Leon concluded, “Early detection of food intolerance will go a long way in ensuring one’s optimum health. If you want to achieve a quality life, make sure to add sleep, right food intake, exercise, and de-stressing as part of your daily routine. When you start living a healthy life, everything else will follow.”

CFL or LED? Which is the better light for you

With lots of attributes to consider, which is really better for you? Let’s scale it down.

CFL

CFL also known as compact fluorescent is your mini version of a standard fluorescent light bulb.

CFL gives lighting efficiency and has been used for decades now and it has graced our homes as it fits perfectly in an ordinary socket without using an adaptor.

CFLs normally takes a few moments to warm up and reach its full brightness.

However, CFLs contain a small amount of mercury which normally does not cause any hazard but if the bulb breaks accidentally, that’s where the problem comes in. Mercury has been banned in the medical field due to its harmful effect on human health.

Regular CFL bulbs lasts up to 6000 hours

Average energy use per year: 767 KWh/yr

Average cost in the Philippines: Php 125 to 300

LED

LED or Light Emitting Diodes was introduce several years back with the promise of lowering your electric bill.

According to the study made by Lighting Research Center, LED light bulbs work by bringing together currents with a positive and negative charge to create energy released in the form of light. The result of this is a fast source of light that is reliableand instantaneous.

LED bulbs also fits an ordinary socket without the need of an adaptor and it bright up as soon as you switch it on.

LED bulbs is considered good for the environment and are endorsed by green movements.

LED bulbs generally cost more to buy although manufacturing technologies are lowering these prices as we move along.

Regular LED lasts anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 hours.

Average energy use per year: 329 KWh/yr

Average cost in the Philippines: Php300 to 800

Equal Factor

Both serves your lighting needs efficiently. Both fits in sockets of your lamps and fixtures. Meaning, if you don’t consider the chances of your bulb breaking then you would likely choose CFL over LED because of the price difference.

Points to Ponder:

CFL might cost less but it requires you to buy more bulbs over time whereas LED lights last longer, so even though you’re paying more at purchase, you buy fewer bulbs in the long run.

Considering the humid weather in the Philippines, we should also consider that CFL bulb emits more heat than LED bulb, thus, by choosing wisely, you can reduce the heat index in your home.

Moreover, if you care for the environment, Lower energy consumption decreases carbon dioxide emissions, sulfur oxide, and high-level nuclear waste.

CD-R Kings makes it easier for you to decide

CD-R King, your one-stop media provider gives you the ease of choosing by taking away the drawback of price difference by making LED bulb available to the General public at a more affordable price.

This is effort compliments their advocacy in encouraging people to care for the environment during their California e-bike campaign early this year.

It is also noted that CD-R King offers several choices of LED bulbs with different price range both for personal and industrial use.

Below are some of the choices for regular household use.
