The First and Only international fashion school in the Philippines

As graduating fashion designers of LaSalle College International-Manila (LCI-Manila), presented their collections, the local fashion industry witnessed with much enthusiasm and optimism an event that shaped the future of fashion in the country.

LCI-Manila’s 6th Graduation Fashion Show was held on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the SMX Convention Center, MOA Complex, Pasay City. The show aptly titled “The Contemporary Filipiniana”, unveiled a compilation of designs inspired by our own culture and tradition, all original creations of the graduating class that have met the highest standards of accuracy, exact measurements and precise cutting patterns.
The concept behind the event was to showcase fresh fashion ideas and new twists on classic themes; exciting experimentations on texture, fabrication and youthful takes on color.

This show was a positive experience for everyone involved. The audience were treated to a fabulous fashion show, the graduating designers got a great platform to show and sell their creations, the makeup artists and stylists had an opportunity to show their talent, the models wore beautiful clothes which added to their runway experience, the sponsors reached a targeted audience that is receptive to their message, and the attending press acquired some great content for their editorials.

Fashion Design graduates included Athena Colico-Tandoc, Patricia Santos, Sonja Lehmann, Mikaela Hahn, Phuong Doan, Margarita Regala, Engie Ness Garcia, Kristine Bautista, and Noelle Miranda.

Guest speaker was Miss Valerie ”Choc” Religioso, an alumna herself of LCI-Manila Batch 2004. She said, “Putting up our atelier business CHOC AND YVETTE RELIGIOSO as well as our retail business RELIGIOSO was never a walk in the park. It took us 5 years to build the brand . What brought us where we are today is years of hard work, sheer determination of knowing that in time small dreams become big realities and most important of all, prayers.
I leave you with a verse from Coco Chanel: “Success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable”.

Direction was by Gerry Katigbak, a renowned fashion designer in the country and one of LCI-Manila’s faculty members which also include mainstream designers Edgar Mendoza and Dax Bayani, among others.
.

The following are the graduates:

77% of Filipinas want their men to a bit more unpredictable. So much for any man’s bravado because the facts have spoken: women get easily bored. That’s why the biggest question now is, you got the girl but how do you keep her?

Men have tried numerous ways to make sure their women aren’t looking the other way. With a lot of qualifiers like taste, looks and style, one outstanding factor women give high regard to is smell.

In fact, 80% of Filipinas want the men they’re with to smell good.

The Twist for the Matter Is

“It bares a scent of fresh citrus and gradually changes to the smell of sandalwood,” explains Alexandre Freile, French Perfumer and Axe Twist Collaborator. With its long lasting effect, women are sure to experience the most delightful, dual and sensual surprise this body spray possesses.

But that’s not only what makes AXE unique.

AXE body spray is actually a functional fragrance–it keeps the sweat from smelling that’s why you’re sure to swoon the girls with your smell for the rest of the day. Acting as a double-action scent, it’s both a fragrance and an anti-odor agent. With AXE Twist as the hottest variant off the AXE Lab, you’re assured of two things too: getting the girl and keeping her.

A Twist for the Facts

Men may have tried everything to make sure that their women aren’t just about to leave them for that guy. But AXE Twist is the first body spray that they may just change the way women think about men.

Indeed smelling good plays a major role in the dating scene and in the mating game. With a scent revolution AXE Twist has set, keeping the girl is never going to be a problem.

Kris Aquino & James Yap is over

MANILA, Philippines – This is a transcript of Kris Aquino’s interview on “The Buzz,” Sunday (June 27), where she disclosed that she has given up on her marriage to basketball star James Yap.

BOY ABUNDA: Krissy, maraming tanong, maraming opinyon, speculations. This is your chance. We will listen. What do you have to say?

KRIS AQUINO: First, I’m sorry about Tuesday [engagement in Cebu]. For so long, ilang buwan naman na nagampanan ko ang lahat ng tungkulin ko, lahat ng responsibilidad sa trabaho at sa kampanya kahit na mayroon kaming pinagdadaanan sa tahanan namin. It was a sign of weakness on my part not to show up, and I’m sorry about that. I’m sorry that you had to be the one to answer because you felt uncomfortable making up an excuse.

About what we’ve been through, I think naman Boy hindi lahat sikreto sa inyong lahat, kung ano ang mga napagdaanan namin in our married life. I think also the wholePhilippines is fully aware na when my mom was alive and ngayon, my siblings have tried to bridge whatever gaps — and I mean gaps, marami na kasi. Tinry nila na tulungan kaming ayusin yung mga problema namin.

I have not sat down [with my siblings]…lahat through text — kay ate, kay Pinky. Through phone, nakausap ko si Viel. Nagtext din kami ni Noy. Siyempre sila lahat, gusto nila sana maayos pa.

I just want to say na whatever decision I have come to, it’s not a spur of the moment decision. Hindi ito nangyari na nagising lang ako isang araw at sinabi kong ayoko na. Matagal naming sinubukan. James and I both tried to really make this work.

On my part, what I’m comfortable saying is, with finality I can say, ako sumuko na.

Ang dami kong pinag-isipan kung paano ko maibabahagi sa lahat kung anong pinagdaanan namin without revealing anything painful. But there’s no way of doing that.

Last night, mga 4 in the morning, hindi ako makatulog pa. Katabi ko si Baby James, and I think he had a bad dream kasi he started to cry in his sleep. And that’s when it came to me, and I’m sure lahat ng mga nanay maiintindihan ako. Kung anuman ang dahilan why thismarriage , on my part I’m saying, is over, the only person I will owe and explanation to, and the only person who can demand from me na bakit kayo naghiwalay, is my son.

And kagabi Boy, narealize ko, the worst thing I can do for Baby James is, when he’s 7 or 8 years old and mahanap niya sa YouTube yung explanation kung bakit naghiwalay ang nanay at tatay niya. He deserves much more than that. He deserves to hear it only from me and only from James. Because in any separation, there are 2 sides to the story. And we owe it to him, James will owe it to him, that I will owe it to him to explain to him.

But I’m sure you will all understand me. My decision to keep quiet is not because on June 30 magiging presidente si Noy. My decision to keep quiet is because I asked myself ‘Kapag inexplain ko kay Baby James, number one mauunawaan ba niya ako? Number 2, rerespetuhin pa ba niya ako? At number 3, mamahalin pa ba niya ako?’ At nasagot ko naman kagabi na ‘yes.’ I know my son will understand me, will respect me and still love me. And I feel that he will love me more, respect me more, and value me more if I keep quiet today.

I know that will leave so many unanswered questions, but those questions, only Baby James deserves to hear the answers to. Siguro Boy, this is part of growing up. It’s part of realizing that yes, I am public and I owe all of you an explanation, but apart from God, the only one I’m answerable to is kung di man mga kapatid ko eh ang anak ko.

Because I’m doing this for my son, because he’s only 3 years old and he really doesn’t deserve na kung ano yung trials na pinagdaanan ng parents niya, kailangang ungkat-ungkatin at ulit-ulitin, wag na.

Kung this will mean na maraming hindi makakaintindi sa akin or sasabihin, ijujudge ako, then let it be. I don’t mind. The world can judge me. I just want my son to be able to respect me and respect his father. Because at the end of the day, ang utang namin sa kanya. Kasi ang pinakamaaapektuhan ng pangyayaring ito ang anak ko. To a certain extent, of course, it will affect Josh but it’s really Baby James who will really be affected.

And maybe, yung sinasabi ng mom ko sa akin parati na ‘Krissy, love is bringing out the best in each other.’ Maybe Baby James is really bringing out the best in me. And that’s it, Boy. I really hope they understand that this is for my son.

BOY: Naiintindihan ko. Maraming salamat, Krissy.

CLASSICISM, PERFORMANCE AND SPEED packed in small packages was the theme of “Meet a Classic”, the event showcasing PLDT SME Nation business solutions together with MINI Coopers to small-and-medium entrepreneurs (SME) from the GMM South-West. The celebration, held at the MINI Cooper showroom in Taguig, brought together classic and new models of Mini Coopers; as well as high-tech gadgets from PLDT SME Nation—all for the enjoyment of SMEs in attendance.

“PLDT SME Nation offers solutions that are in sync with the modern lifestyles of SMEs today. For example, we are bundling fast Internet connectivity with Apple Macs of the PLDT MyDSL Biz. More than anything, this event is about taking time to relax and have a great time with our partner SMEs. In this gathering, we combine the thrills of high-speed, advanced technology and classic, high-performance automobiles,” says PLDT SME Nation Vice President and Head Kat Luna-Abelarde.

The 450-sqm area of the MINI showroom was packed with SMEs from all over Metro Manila. Pinoymini.com, an exclusive club of MINI Cooper owners, were also present in the event displaying their own MINI Coopers. Everyone was greatly impressed by the MINI showroom’s impressive interiors and the different models of MINIs that owners brought to the event. Guests were also treated to a night of delectable cocktails.

“We know that running a business is hard work and allotting some leisure time for one’s self is essential for SMEs, that’s why we hold appreciation events such as this to give our clients the relaxation and break they need,” says PLDT SME Nation Business Head Carla Tabuena.

The PLDT MyDSL Biz offers SMEs high-speed Internet access through various packages suited to business in all stages of growth, from start-ups to established ones. Connectivity speeds offered by PLDT MyDSL Biz range from the Small Biz Lite packages of 3.5Mbps to the Powerpack C packages of 8Mbps. Oxygen

This fashion-forward leap for Oxygen can be seen in their exquisitely-shot new campaign – a day-in-the-life photodiary of sorts – photographed by Doc Marlon Pecjo in the urbanscapes of bustling Hong Kong. Oxygen’s photodiary features a group of friends living it up in the fast-paced, stylish city, maneuvering through their brunch dates and afternoons with unpretentious style, and diving headfirst into their dinner parties and nightcaps in nothing but Oxygen’s latest collection. Captured on-cam, their devil-may-care attitude and sense of style is completely complemented by Oxygen’s new collection – forward, sophisticated, carefree, and glowing in the city’s spotlights.

NEW LOOK + MIDYEAR CAMPAIGN
In this day and age, change is always a breath of fresh air. And Oxygen shows us how to do it perfectly. What began as a staple party apparel brand, Oxygen reinvents itself with an effortlessly cool and unabashedly stylish aesthetic, inspired by the devil-may-care, urban chic high street fashion. New cuts and silhouettes are given more flare with raw-edged scoopnecks and slouchy tops in lightweight fabric, sleek and tailored military-inspired pieces, ombre and acid washed tees and jeans.

They say matter cannot be created nor destroyed; it can only change in shape – and true to form, Oxygen shows us how it’s done with the right mix of street & sophistication. Most definitely a breath of fresh air.

OXYGEN PRESENTS XTV: THE LAUNCH EVENT

What used to be your regular party gear took on a sophisticated turn and showed it off last Wednesday, June 16. Oxygen, which started in the 90s with their signature graphic tees, took on a high-street reinvention and launched their new campaign and collection in XTV, a photo and video exhibit at Whitespace.

Oxygen dissected street fashion and lifestyle with photos & videos of their new campaign, shot entirely in bustling Hong Kong. The urban, chic videos were followed by a preview of XTV, a documentary featuring Manila’s stylemakers – Photographer Doc Marlon Pecjo (who shot Oxygen’s new campaign), Entrepreneur Divine Lee, Filmmaker Quark Henares, Artist Revo Naval, Writer Pam Pastor, Stylist Kai Magsanoc (who styled Oxygen’s new campaign as well); Slick Rick, Tony Toni and Sam YG of Boys Night Out, Tattoo Artist Ron Poe of P&P Tattoo, and Makeup Artist Jigs Mayuga. An episode of XTV will be launched every Saturday via www.oxygentm.com/xtv to back up their new sleek style and showcase Manila’s one-of-a-kind trendsetters.

Aside from their video presentation, Oxygen also featured their latest collection – a bold mix of neutrals, lightweight fabrics, offbeat cuts and silhouettes and military inspired details – in reverse striptease. Models came out in their innerwear and dressed up right before the audience’s eyes in Oxygen’s latest apparel. The reverse striptease featured 10 key looks from their new midyear collection.

As if all the reverse stripteasing and overseas documentaries weren’t enough, everybody danced to hot mess levels as Us-2 Evil-0, DJ’s Gigee of Fluxxe, Chie Castaneda of ILY x Future Bar and DJ Bcal of Styles blasted music to cap off a totally unconventional launch party.

If this is any indication of where Oxygen is taking us, then by all means – take our breaths away.

Finding Your Fountain of Youth

To be honest I never went through the ugly skin, breakouts and acne stage. I attribute it to good genes and simplicity. But my husband did and when I see his photos I laugh at him and make a joke about his “acne days". I’m sure he dreads it when his kids will ask him about those dreaded days. What’s worse is that, he still has the scars (of the past) from those memorable acne years that will serve as a reminder of that adolescent stage.

A 360 Workout That Will Change Your Life.

We all live in a fast-paced life but we still owe it to ourselves to be fit and healthy. Aside from proper diet and supplements we really need to exercise. That’s why when I was asked by an old friend Ms. Marikit asked if we could take time out to out visit the 360 Fitness Club. I didn't say hesitate and said yes right away and though it was a struggle to wake up early and got to Ortigas on a Frday . I wasn't disappointed at what I saw. The trip was totally worth it.The place is not yet a 100% ready. But 360 Fitness Club is a revelation in itself. You'd be amazed at how organized, effective and simple their workout regime is. In just 30 minutes you can get a full body workout (and this is not an infomercial for a fitness product) no complicated steps or machines which means its simple and not complicated.

I tried the exercise program and I really loved it. I also enjoyed the hiphop class that in itself is worth going back for. If there is one thing the human body is, it is a network of countless bio electric currents that dictate movement and functioning. It stimulates the nerves and prompts the muscles to move in desired directions and intended speed. But it’s not that simple, is it? The problem is that we are more just our physical bodies.

In the health-and-mind business, you hear a lot about willpower. What nobody tells you is that your will doesn’t come with the power already installed. Nobody tells you that no matter how weak you think your will is today, you can make it strong – a force for what you can do, not an excuse for what you cannot. And you build your will the same way you build your body – by using it, stretching it, pushing it to its limit and then beyond. Everybody tells you how this product or that belief can change you. Nobody really tells you that you already have the power to change yourself without them.

Because your circuit to fitness requires strength, endurance, focus and technique, it engages your mind and your spirit as well as your body. 360 Fitness Club designed the group circuit training to be more than just an exercise program. The desire to move ahead, to challenge yourself and to achieve what you never thought possible. With the use of free weights and exercise accessories., the 360 Circuit consists of 20 exercise stations that combine cardiovascular and strengthening exercises – a total body workout that will make members burn up to 500 calories in just 30 minutes, tone and shape up.

According to fitness expert and coach Christopher Emmanuel S. Callanta, the total body workout stands for the qualities that both demands and develops a 30-minute complete the circuit workout for three times a week beyond what your eyes can see – a total body transformation!

“We’re all about making fitness a way of life, a habit, and it’s easy to do just that if exercising will be fast, efficient and fun – 30 minutes and you get a total body workout. Of course, it should be effective especially if you complete the circuit at least 30 minutes for 3 times a week,” Callanta said.

A certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Nebraska, USA, Callanta has seen exercise fads come and go and how boring and uninspiring a workout can be. But he knows the power of a good workout to get the body moving, the mind working and the spirit soaring.

“The workouts are designed to be in a group setting where both co-members and coaches will make the workout experience more fun, and more effective. Coaches will guide and push members to their ‘personal fitness best’ and members will motivate each other. The truth is, it’s hard to exercise alone. More so enter a huge full-scale gym without knowing how the machines work, and where you have to pay an expensive per hour price to get some personal training. It’s difficult to push yourself to run on that treadmill for hours. The group setting and diversity of exercises will make the habit of working out much easier to maintain. Of course, it will also make exercising more fun and exciting,” furthered managing director Joana Piñon.

Fitness experts have advocated the benefits of free weights versus machines for the longest time. Whereas machines limit your range of motion and workout only one muscle group at a time, free weights mimic natural movements, improving your balance and coordination, and encouraging “functional training” that works better than traditional methods. Circuit coaches will guide members throughout the circuit to correct their forms, ensure their safety, and motivate them to reach their goals.

“Also, one-third of 30,000 health clubs in the US are express circuit training facilities. Here in the Philippines, we are the first co-ed express circuit training gym/club,” enthused Piñon. She stressed that 360 Fitness Club is the first in the country to offer group TRX suspension training, a method of leveraged body weight exercise.

“In as little as 30 minutes, members can get a complete body workout to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and performance. Over 300 TRX exercises can be performed and they simply have to adjust their body position to adjust the resistance and intensity of the exercise – that’s why everyone from all fitness levels can do TRX.”

The club will also offer 45-minute group exercise classes such as power yoga, hip-hop dance off, latin dance, and cardio combat, and these classes will be taught by the best group exercise instructors. The group exercise coaches, however, will not just instruct – they will teach, motivate, and inspire. 360 Fitness advocates fitness as a way of life, so there will also be a health bar that will offer low calorie, healthy dishes to encourage proper nutrition to its members,” Piñon added.

It’s not about squeezing into those old jeans or lowering the blood pressure, your circuit to fitness will help you discover the power of an express workout, the same exciting, effective and energizing power that will help fitness enthusiasts stay fit and get fit. It’s much more than moving your body and getting in shape.

Get started! Visit 360 Fitness Club at Strata 100 bldg., Ortigas Ave, Ortigas Center in Pasig City.

Toy Story 3

Director Lee Unkrich says they’ve continued the Pixar tradition of blending fun with a relatable story. “‘Toy Story 3’ is about change,” says Unkrich. “It’s about embracing transitions in life. It’s about characters being faced with major changes and how they deal with them. Woody and the other toys are facing the monumental fact that Andy has outgrown them. Andy is facing becoming an adult and heading off to college. And Andy’s mom is facing the fact that her son has grown up and is heading out into the world. We begin our story at pivotal moments in the characters’ lives.”
“Toy Story 3” welcomes Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), Buzz (voice of Tim Allen) and the whole gang back to the big screen as Andy prepares to depart for college and his loyal toys find themselves in…day care! But the untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway. More than a few new faces—some plastic, some plush—join the adventure, including iconic swinging bachelor and Barbie’s counterpart, Ken (voice of Michael Keaton); a lederhosen-wearing thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants (voice of Timothy Dalton); and a pink, strawberry-scented teddy bear called Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear (voice of Ned Beatty).
“The film has a lot of big, serious themes, so we wanted to make sure we balanced it with a lot of humor,” says producer Darla K. Anderson. “It can be as deep as you want it to be, on many levels. The story reflects how we all must face change in life; it’s inevitable.”
“‘Toy Story’ has always been about us,” says executive producer John Lasseter (who directed the first two “Toy Story” films). “So much of me, Andrew [Stanton], Pete Docter, Joe Ranft, and Lee [Unkrich] has seeped into these stories about Buzz and Woody, and I think ‘Toy Story 3’ continues that. For me personally, I was able to tap into the real emotion of taking my son to college. After helping him set up his dorm room, my wife and I were ready to return home, and we thought he’d walk away and go back to his room. Instead, he stood there and wouldn’t leave. As we drove away, he just waved, and I broke down in tears. It was an immensely powerful emotion. You’re with someone since birth, and then all of a sudden they’re going away. The timing between ‘Toy Story 2’ and ‘Toy Story 3’ was perfect for letting Andy—and our own life situations—grow up.”
The stellar vocal cast reunites Hanks and Allen with Joan Cusack as Jessie, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, Wallace Shawn as Rex, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, and Estelle Harris as Mrs. Potato Head, while featuring the “Toy Story” debuts of Beatty, Keaton and Dalton, as well as Jeff Garlin, Kristen Schaal, Bonnie Hunt and Whoopi Goldberg. John Morris, who has provided the voice of Andy since the first film, returns to voice the college-bound teen. Blake Clark is heard as Slinky.
Directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2” and “Finding Nemo”), produced by Pixar veteran Darla K. Anderson (“Cars,” “Monsters, Inc.”), and written by Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”), “Toy Story 3” is a comical new adventure in Disney Digital 3D™. Oscar®-winning composer/songwriter Randy Newman, a key collaborator on the first two “Toy Story” films, is back on board to provide another brilliant score (and new song). “Toy Story 3” is based on a story by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich. John Lasseter is the executive producer. The story supervisor is Jason Katz, film editor is Ken Schretzmann, production designer is Bob Pauley, and the supervising technical director is Guido Quaroni. The supervising animators are Bobby Podesta and Michael Venturini, and the directors of photography are Jeremy Lasky (camera) and Kim White (lighting).

“Toy Story 3” hits U.S. theaters June 18, 2010.

Funky fashion for Happy Little Girls

Every girl deserves to dress like a princess. Fashion designer Happy Andrada kept this in mind when she created her colorful, edgy, quirky and trendy 60-piece “Little Princess” collection for little girls with age range from 2 to soon to be teens.

Happy Andrada’s “Little Princess” collection experiments and applies details such as doiley, buttons, stuffed charms, lace, ribbons, cut-outs and more that make each piece as unique as it can be.

“Little Princess” collection has plenty of prints and colorful hues --- yellow, blue, pink, orange, green, black, white, violet and red. Each design is a visual treat as this new line includes Diva Princess, Glam Princess, Rocker Princess, Funky Princess, Harajuku Pop Princess, and Hippie Princess.

Born in the 80’s, Happy Andrada was exposed to different artistic sensibilities. Remembering her growing up years as a child, Happy could only but vividly recall her own set of clothes from the “prim and proper” to the Madonna-esque. Which is why, for the “Little Princess” fashion collection, Happy’s inspiration ranges from the girls in the movie “The Sound of Music” all dressed up having tea, or running around in the garden and most especially when they sang “So Long Farewell.” For the edgier designs, Happy got inspiration from Morticia and Wednesday from “The Addams Family” who looked amazing in black and white outfits. “I also drool over The Rolling Stones song Paint it Black,” Happy said. Everybody still loves Cookies

The Cookie fever is spreading even more with the LG’s “Let’s Continue the Cookie Revolution” campaign. From Baguio to Davao, thousands of people catch the LG Cookie Mascot on its toes as it roams through various SM malls nationwide. Lucky spotters can take their most wacky, creative and cool snapshots with the LG Cookie mascot.

The Cookie mascot campaign epitomizes the characteristics of the LG Cookie Series of being sociable, enjoyable, and affordable. Cookie Wi-Fi (LG KM555), Cookie Ultima (LG GT505), and Cookie Pop (LG GD510) comprised the first new set of Cookie series, while Cookie Fresh (LG GS290) came as fresh addition recently.

Dedicated websites -- www.lgcookie.ph or myLifesGoodPH facebook page-- have been established to facilitate easy uploading and sharing of photos for a chance to participate in the competition. The online sites ask participants to upload their cute and enjoyable photos with LG Cookie mascot and encourage their friends to join in on the fun by voting for their most favourite entries.

Hernandez said that LG reinvents and finds innovative ways to relate closely with our customers. With social networking site Facebook, we sought to make an online community wherein people can interact and share with each other their experiences with Cookie phones and Cookie Mascot as a means to spread the fun experiences and frenzy here in our local arena.

Entries for the Cookie Mascot contest can be made until the middle of June 2010. The most popular photos will be judged based on votes from Facebook users which will be allotted 60% and the creativity of the pose with the LG Cookie Mascot which accounts for 40% of the final score.
The top three winners will be declared and will win the following phones up for grabs: 1st Place – one Cookie Ultima, 2nd Place – one Cookie Pop and 3rd Place – one Cookie Wi-fi. To add on the surprise, three lucky friends from top three winners will be drawn to receive one Cookie Wi-Fi each via digital raffle draw to be announced on the 18th of June 2010.

Top Pinoy SMEs Join PLDT-SME Nation Bossing Ako Campaign

PLDT-SME Nation has appointed twelve “Pinoy Bossings” as part of its “Bossing Ako” campaign, which seeks to to encourage a new generation of Filipino entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses; and to inspire Filipino SMEs to continue on in the face of obstacles and challenges.

The success stories of these SME icons will inspire more Filipinos to become entrepreneurs and ‘be their own bossing’. “Their stories are a rich mine of valuable wisdom Nothing compares to the personal, real-life experiences of a successful entrepreneur. When you meet a successful entrepreneur, you are looking for living proof of what actually works in the real world”.

The grand launch was a gathering of the country’s new breed of rock stars – the entrepreneur rock stars – as the “Bossing Ako” campaign tapped some of the country’s brightest names in the SME sector to share their stories and provide inspiration to Filipino entrepreneurs.
The complete roster of “Pinoy Bossings” include none other than Manny V. Pangilinan, Burger King head honcho; Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Films; Jay Aldeguer of Island Souvenirs; Joey Concepcion, entrepreneurship advocate and Founding Trustee of Go Negosyo; Les Reyes of Reyes Haircutters; and Gardy Cruz of Pansit Malabon Express.

Also in the inspiring pool are Raphael and Jenni Soon of North Park; Ronald Pineda of Folded & Hung; Benjamin Liuson of The Generics Pharmacy, Darius and Carlos Hizon of Pampanga’s Best; Louie and Dulzzi Gutierrez of Silverworks; and Dr. Vicki Belo and Cristalle Henares as the mother-daughter tandem behind Belo Essentials. Go Negosyo founding trustee, and “bossing” of RFM Corporation and Joey Pepperoni, Joey Concepcion.
The “Pinoy Bossings”, became the evening’s stars as they showed off their established enterprises and paraded on center stage.

Pinoy music icons and rock stars in their own right, Rico Blanco and Arnel Pineda, also empowered the evening as they performed “Para sa mga Bossing,” the official anthem of the “Bossing Campaign”. The song was especially written for the campaign, and makes a call for Filipinos to be their own bosses by starting their own businesses, especially in the SME (small to medium enterprises) sector.

PLDT SME Nation’s “Bossing Ako” campaign was launched to encourage a new generation of entrepreneurs as the company’s contribution to nation-building. “SMEs practically form the backbone of our economy, generating jobs and about 90% of the income,’’ says Kat Luna-Abelarde, PLDT Vice President and head of PLDT SME Nation.

Kay sarap isipin
Na may kasama sa buhay pag bumaha
Chorus:
Sukob na, halika na
Sabay tayo sa payong ko
Hawak na, kapit pa
Sa payong ko magkasama tayo …
Hinding-hindi ka pababayaan
Na mag-isa sa ulan
Aalagaan, magtatawanan
Wala na ‘tong iwanan …

Sukob na, halika na
Sabay tayo sa payong ko
Hawak ka, kapit pa
Umula’t, bumagyo magkasama tayo …

Di ko na inakala pa, na ika’y paparito
Ngunit salamat na lamang

Ayala Triangle Gardens Unveil 1st Living Flag.

Ayala Triangle Gardens is the first ever park to have wifi access within its premises. Its located near the Makati Stock Exchange. The park was opened to the public in 2009 after its massive re-development. It was been a place of personal sanctuary for everyone nearby, who can't get out of the city and see the green lush trees.

This year Ayala Triangle Gardens has added another attraction, which will be displayed fpr the public to see in time for Independence Day. The living flag, measuring around 150 square meters, will be made with almost four thousand flowering plants...

“Since the Gardens opened to the public in 2009, it has provided a green refuge for urban dwellers and has served as a venue for shared experiences in Makati,” says Meean Dy, head of Ayala Land’s Strategic Landbank Management Group. ‘With Independence day coming up, we are launching the “I he(art) Makati. I heart the Philippines. I heart being free.” series of events that hope to showcase the Gardens and celebrate the Filipino spirit. This is one of them.”

The unveiling of the 1st ever living flag was yesterday at the fountain area of the Makati Stock Exchange on a rainy afternoon. The MAPSA the city's local police had set up an orchestral band to provide the music, and played the national anthem in the opening ceremonies.

Viewing up top in capturing the living flag is something to be admired. Its a different kind of experience if you see it in aerial view, but the only chance you can see it is high above the restricted rooftop area of the Makati Stock Exchange. We appreciate that MSE for giving us the chance to see, and capture the experience in our digital cameras. This is something to be proud of bringing nationalism inside of us, and being proud to be a Filipino.

The Ayala Triangle Gardens, the city’s main cultural and civic hub will serve as the backdrop to the living flag, its lush foliage and spacious lawns perfectly complementing the creative display of nationalism. Activities will kick off on June 9th with the unveiling of the living flag. Adjacent installations will also provide historical facts and tidbits about the Philippine flag.

In line with the Independence Day activities, the Legazpi and Sedeño underpasses will be transformed into the City’s first pedestrian art galleries. Entitled “Looking for Juan” and “Everyday Filipino Heroes”, the exhibits will feature artworks of Bencab, Elmer Borlongan, Sajid Imao, Plet Bolipata and many others. The project aims to bring art closer to the public and make walking a more pleasurable experience.

Finally, a major photography contest featuring Makati will be held. A week-long competition for photography and camera clubs will kick-off on June 9. An on-the-spot contest open to the public for kids, teens and adults will be held on June 19 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens. Free photography sessions by noted professionals, activities for kids and festive photo opportunities at the Gardens. Prizes also await the best vintage personal photographs taken in Makati which will be submitted on the day.

Art Collaboration seen at Makati’s Underpass

Urban pedestrians will soon enjoy a brighter journey to work.

The first-ever underpass art gallery comes alive at the Makati Central Business District with two exhibits: “Looking for Juan” at the Legazpi Underpass and “Everyday Filipino Heroes” at the Sedeno Underpass. Coinciding with the celebration of Independence Day, the project aims to make art more accessible to the public and to liven the pedestrian experience.

The Legazpi Underpass crosses Ayala Avenue fromLegazpi Village (near Locsin Building) to Ayala Triangle, while the Sedeno Underpass crosses Paseo de Roxas fromSedeno Street to Ayala Triangle...
Ayala Land and Alveo, in collaboration with Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) and Makati Commercial Estate Association, will line the underpass walls with selected artwork from CANVAS’ previous exhibitions (“Looking for Juan” – April 2009, Cultural Center of the Philippines and “Everyday Filipino Heroes” – May 2010, UP Vargas Museum).

Curated by Marika Constantino, the exhibit will feature works by Bencab, Elmer Borlongan, Sajid Imao, Plet Bolipata and other prominent artists. “Looking for Juan” is a collection that attempts to answer what a Filipino is, while “Everyday Filipino Heroes” portrays heroes like teachers, doctors, etc. we encounter on a daily basis.

The project will also promote education and sustainability, as children’s books published by CANVAS will be donated to Makati public schools, while tarpaulins used at the exhibit will be recycled into art tote bags. A non-profit organization that trains women’s communities in Antipolo and Laguna, will spearhead the initiative to convert the tarps into bags.

The underpass art exhibit is just one of the events under the “I He(art) Makati. I heart the Philippines. I heart being free” banner. At the adjacent Ayala Triangle Gardens, the country’s first living flag will be displayed with close to 4,000 flowering plants.

On June 19, a series of photography contests featuring Makati shall be held at the Triangle Gardens for kids, teens, adults and professional shutterbugs.
